Dell Studio XPS 1640 + ATI 4670 review (1/2)
Part 1 of my review of my new Dell laptop with the ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 graphics processor. For my review of the same laptop with an ATI 3670: www.youtube.com Specs: Intel Centrino 2 Core 2 Duo T9800 (2.93 GHz, 6 MB L2 cache, 1067 MHz FSB) 4 GB DDR3 RAM (1067 MHz) 500 GB 7200 RPM HDD with free fall sensor ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4670 (1-2.8 GB DDR3) 1920×1080 RGBLED 16″ 16:9 Intel WifiLink Ultimate N 5300
Have same laptop ;)
how long can you play crysis high def until the laptop becomes too hot?
As long as cooler is there, forever.
what cooler? the cooling system integrated in the laptop you mean?
I have the exact same laptop, if u use it in a laptop stand…….no more overheating problem. It doesn’t even get warm. Just a suggestion;)
@TheMomba99 In case you didn’t see, mine is on a laptop cooler.
@fred2028 I got two question to ask you.. As you know I’m not know too much about computer so please forgive me.
#1: Can it play well without lag in youtube HD 1080P?
#2: Does it render fast in sony vegas and does it lag when putting lots of effects in sony vegas?
I have a DELL 1645, Windows 7 – 64bit, I7-720, 4GB RAM and 1GB graphics. I’ve tried to play COD MW2 and Operation Flashpoint 2 and both games can only be played 800 x 600. Anything over that is in slow motion. What am I doing wrong? Shouldn’t this system rock? I mean it has 1gb of graphics for fucks sake ! suggestions anyone? Cheers !
Yes, I did notice that you had a cooling pad…. And a fan running and wishing for AC. That is why I made the suggestion of the laptop stand, if you use this computer in the stand there is no need for your “ghetto” setup
As you put it.
@rolf3542 wat graphics card do you hace
it’s a ATI 4670 HD, 1GB
you guys might think im a retard for asking this but what exactly is Anti Anailsing? or whatever its called? what does it exactly do for the game? please PM me at cheatman5 please and give me an answer. THANKS!
@Cheatman5 Google it.
Basically it gets rid of jaggedy lines when you draw curves on the screen by rewriting over it a few times.
Like you have a gun, it has a scope. Scope is round. 0x AA will make the scope look more blocky and 8x AA will make it look more round.
whats a fall sensor? What exactly does it do?
@2Girls1Brayden On an HDD if the sensor detects free-fall (i.e. dropped laptop) it removes the read/write head from the spinning discs so no damage will be done to the HDD.
@rolf3542 … it’s not everything in more MB graphics of gpu (for example there is almost no diference between two gpu’s using the same chip but diferent amount of ram on them). HD 4670 with P8600 !! will play chrysis on high settings & very near max res without any problem; with i7 it should play smooth on max settings & very near max res.
Nice laptop.
But fail concept. Gaming laptops never have the best graphics or resolution. I bet you payed a mint price for that.
For the cost of that laptop I bet you could get a good gaming rig. ‘Good’ being an i5 and a 5750.
But still, nice laptop. I have the Studio 1535. But not for gaming. (it has a 3450)
hi, nice laptop..im thinking of buying it as well and i was wondering if you can change the video card yourself, like if i get the laptop with the 3670 card can i upgrade it my self to the 4670?
I don’t like glossy screen :( It was so good when laptop screens didnt reflect anything… xD
Tell me about it, but generally graphics look better
Yep, completely agree, but it’s nice to have a fast laptop.
Dude, is it good to play Crysis or the game lag?
has dell fixed the throttling issues I want to buy one this week, might get it with an i5-540m
Do you know if this is hdmi 1.3 to output the full rgb color gamut.
I just got my studio xps 16… annnnddd I just got Crysis from steam, now this laptop is beautiful! it runs Empire total war on max settings, I am aware Crysis is a more demanding game but I see that it is running fine for you, however when I play it on even medium settings and 720p my framerates about 20 which isnt so good, the specs of Crysis says laptop chipsets may not be supported and when I asked a dell rep they said the same thing. Can anyone help me? I would appreciate any suggestion
