In composing a birthday invitation message, the writer should choose the words that best express the celebrant’s character and his or her desire for the invitees to join the celebration. 3. Let the celebrant’s personality be the deciding factor when choosing the words and design for the invitations. Invitation messages are not exclusively said in words. Sometimes, the design of the invites themselves says a lot on what the celebration is all about. If you are the celebrant, choose designs that best portray what you like doing and what you enjoy most in life. If you are making the invites for someone else, you can ask the celebrant how he or she wants to celebrate the special day. If it is to be a surprise, choose a person who knows the celebrant well when it comes to choosing the invitation design and the words that will be written inside it.

4. Consider the celebrant’s relationship with the guests. For close friends and relatives, a touching, personal message is a suitable way of expressing the celebrant’s desire for the invitees’ presence. If the event is an intimate one, it will be better if the birthday celebrant will write the message himself. If the event is a formal one and most guests will be colleagues or casual peers, then a more formal message is in order. Remember that personal messages in invitations might be touching to those who knew the celebrant well, but might be considered overboard by people who knew the birthday person only in a casual way or see him only in professional settings.

A birthday invitation message is a tool that a celebrant can use to express both his desire for the invitee’s company and his gratitude for that person’s involvement in his life. In choosing the words, remember to also take note of the celebrant’s level of intimacy with the person being invited.
